And yet he is. Not my opinion at all, I should have noted; but, I think I've heard some version of a "Garfunkel and Oates" joke in rock criticism at least a half-dozen times.

Even though Simon was the creative force behind S&G, Art's harmonies and solos made the duo greater than the sum of its parts. And "Bridge Over Troubled Water" alone, in which he gives one of the greatest vocal performances ever, should preclude him from ever being lumped in with Oates and (shudder) Frehley.

That Folds/Wainwright thing is a keeper. Just enough drama, just enough whimsy. Kinda like when Robbie Fulks covers "Believe" or "Dancing Queen."

I read Wham!'s biography recently (yes, really!) and come to think of it - I don't remember more than 2 words about Andrew Ridgeley.
