And for some reason we didn't play a lot of music in the living room.

Dan, what is your email. Let's reconnect.

Re: Basement Songs: “Cigarettes and Coffee” by Otis Redding

Really enjoyed this entry. I can't believe you never played more Otis in the Blue House, or maybe you did and I wasn't paying attention.

Still, the late night Denny's trips seem to be universal to Cleveland suburban experience. At any given time past mid-night, you could walk into the two or three nearest ones and find at least that many groups of people from school. These same people who you might never talk to during the day at school you could give a nod of acknowledgment to and have it understood that you were all part of the same equation. I'll never forgive them for getting rid of Sprite Delights though.

Re: Basement Songs: “Cigarettes and Coffee” by Otis Redding

Speaking as a frustrated former screenwriting wannabe, I can imagine a young crew hanging out at the local Denny's, drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes after the big party, recalling the night's events... But it's all ending and caffeine and nicotine ain't working up the necessary stimulus to keep this night going. Once it's over, it's back into the old routine and not long before nights like that couldn't happen ever again.

You were looking for an afterglow kind of coda whereas I, Mr. Party Pooper, would've looked to the thousand yard stare of rapidly approaching responsibility, trying hard to grab onto every bit of this night as I could but now the sun's up, just like that, and it's gone.

Re: Basement Songs: “Cigarettes and Coffee” by Otis Redding

Funny, I was sitting in Dennys last Friday night around 3 A.M after one of Dave's shows . Every time I walk into that place I find myself looking around for someone I know. I feel like I am transported back in time. It used to be a time (when we were much younger) That we would end up joining a table of 12 people we knew that were already there! Now I feel like the old lady watching all the young people do exactly what we used to do.

Wish you would of shared this song with all of us back then. I know it will be running thru my head every time I hit The N.O. Dennys after hours!

Hey The Two Moons over my hammy are still as tasty!
