I can't remember what the first dance was...something by Kenny Rogers (my wife's choice...it was 1985!)

If I had it to do all over again, we would dance to "Only With You" by The Beach Boys. Hate Mike Love if you must, but his lyrics for this song are very nice....plus some nice moody lyrics from Dennis and a great vocal from Carl

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: Bride of Popdose: A Wedding Songs Mixtape

Criminy, how could you neglect "This must be the place (naive melody)" from the Talking Heads?!

Re: Bride of Popdose: A Wedding Songs Mixtape

Not that I contribute to the site, but I walked down the aisle to "Going to the Chapel", Elvis burst into the "chapel" because my fiancé couldn't continue the vows without him (almost gave my dad a stroke), elvis sang "Love me Tender" and on our way out of the chapel, he sang "Viva Las Vegas" (guess where the wedding was). We walked into the reception to "something to talk about" and danced to "at last" (EJ's version). It was a half traditional and half Vegas style. After 13 years, people still talk about it.

Re: Bride of Popdose: A Wedding Songs Mixtape

If I may suggest a song for the wedding...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: Bride of Popdose: A Wedding Songs Mixtape

Oh it's something alright.

Re: Bride of Popdose: A Wedding Songs Mixtape

I've never been married. I'll never get married. But there always is a long shot, if I could find someone who also thought David Sylvian's "Brilliant Trees" was one of the best love songs ever written:

And there you stand
Making my life possible
Raise my hands up to heaven
But only you could know

My whole world stands in front of me
By the look in your eyes
By the look in your eyes
My whole life stretches in front of me
Reaching up like a flower
Leading my life back to the soil

Re: Bride of Popdose: A Wedding Songs Mixtape

It's certainly ... um, original ...

Re: Bride of Popdose: A Wedding Songs Mixtape

In this case, everyone went nuts to "Celebration" because they knew that we didn't want to hear it. I saw it in a local store tonight (but didn't have the money.) After North, I had my brain wiped a'la Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and all the Rob Reiner movie references got flushed. It's such a big decision for an audiophile: the soundtrack for this most poignant occasion. And I love that Kelly has a 'never, but...' song and Dunphy has an 'if' song. Very cool.
Congrats to the anniversaries and milestones big and small.

Re: Bride of Popdose: A Wedding Songs Mixtape

We are all getting my "When Harry Met Sally" reference, aren't we?

Re: Bride of Popdose: A Wedding Songs Mixtape

I just checked -- it doesn't come out 'til Tuesday. I knew the song, but that's the first time I'd remembered hearing it used at a wedding reception. It did have an impact as a lot of people were asking what the song was and who did it. This was a young couple in their mid-20's, so I was somewhat surprised. Never got a chance to ask them what the significance was for them.
