In 1986, I was dating a girl who loved Lionel Richie. We were on the phone one day, and she told me she had heard his new single. "It's GOOD," she assured me, knowing that I was not a fan. Then I finally heard it, and couldn't believe me ears. "Oh, what a feeling"? Are you kidding me? Wasn't that the Toyota tag line at the time?

Can't even bring myself to watch the above video with the sound off. Awful, just awful.

An old friend of mine recently called me after going through some substance abuse issues. "Dancing on the Ceiling" somehow came up in our conversation, don't ask me how. I kid you not, this was my friend's profound revelation about this song: "Now I know what that song is about: it's about being high on crack!"
