It struck me more as a sleazy Donny Osmond singing to his sister Marie.

Re: Chartburn: 5/23/08

I was working at an elevator-music radio station when "Ballerina Girl" was out, and it was almost too wimpy for us to play.

Re: Chartburn: 5/23/08

You know what? It came on my favorite radio station, and I changed the channel to my second favorite radio station. They, too, were playing Ballerina Girl. I changed it to my station of last resort: Ballerina Girl. A piece of me died as I turned off my radio in frustration.

Nothing in this world will ever convince me that the song isn't vile.

As to Please Don't Go, I actually like the song without liking either of the most popular versions of that song at all. So when I want to hear it, I just listen to the Gwen McCrae version. At least she knows how to stay in tune.

Re: Chartburn: 5/23/08

(Whoops...meant to be a reply to J's comment re: that Armageddon crapfest of theirs...)

Re: Chartburn: 5/23/08

I still shudder whenever I hear Steve Tyler keying up for that climactic "Even when I DRAAAAAAYMMM OF YOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!!!!!" scream.

Re: Chartburn: 5/23/08

Wasn't Shanice on the first episode of Leno, along with Billy Crystal? That would explain the Branford shout-out, or how she got on such a much-hyped show, depending on the timing.

Re: Chartburn: 5/23/08

Is Aerosmith's Pink really 10 years old? Yikes. I still think of it as one of the band's recent singles. Which means I'm old. But not nearly as old as they are, and if that's what they looked like 10 years ago, they must be about molded by now. I actually gave up on Aerosmith retroactively after they recorded that horrible Celine Dion cast-off for the asteroid movie.

Re: Chartburn: 5/23/08

Holy crap...that "Please Don't Go" video!! Not only does KC blink more times than any human may have ever blinked in a single music video, but he looks like a cross between John Travolta as Tony Manero and Freddie Mercury circa "Bohemian Rhapsody".

Re: Chartburn: 5/23/08

Wow. Three of the most annoying songs in history (even though I kinda have a soft spot for "I Love Your Smile" now), another song that spawned one of the worst cover versions of all time and "Regret"-the one song I can actually say I enjoy out of these five. Wow. Y'all outdid yourselves :-)

That K.W.S. cover of "Please Don't Go" makes me want to feed myself whole to a pack of lions. You couldn't go near a radio that summer without hearing it. Not like the original version (which I don't even think I heard until after K.W.S's version was a hit) was great, but, damn. Ugh, K.W.S. Moving on.

I generally love Lionel, but "Ballerina Girl" tips the sap-o-meter in the wrong direction. I'll stick with 'Hello", thankyaverrmuch.
