i went to see the police twice on this tour. and as much as i love the band, whatever version of 'don't stand so close to me' they were playing is/was awful. they changed two songs from the first show to the second (more recent). i wish they wold have allowed more variety in the set list, but that was probably asking too much. actually, it's not, but this money grab of a tour, however enjoyable for the majority, was as assembly line as it gets.

i would have paid extra to hear them play 'peanuts' or 'contact.'

did i mention yet how awful 'invisible sun' sounded in concert? i almost fell asleep.

i am happy i was able to see them play live, but i wasn't totally overwhelmed. they are an a-plus band who just concluded a b-minus tour.

I was really surprised how heavily they leaned on the Zenyatta Mondatta material.

I saw The Police on the first leg of this tour, and it was a snoozer. They brought the tempo down on so many songs that by the end of the concert, I think the place was about 3/4 full. Still, I missed seeing them back in the day, so it was really thrilling to see the band play live. The came back around my neck of the woods in mid-July and from what friends who attended the show told me, they upped the tempo and the audience was thrilled.

Glad to hear you had a great time!

I assume you included the set list at least in part for us to comment on it if we felt the need, so I'd like to state and hope that I'm backed up by at least one person: De do do do, De dah whatever the fuck BLOWS. I love the verses, but that goofy, nonsense baby talk crap chorus really sucks. I like the Police a lot though and would have loved to see one of these shows. Since they did like 12 reunion tours instead of 1, I am completely to blame for not making it out. It was too pricey for me was the reason. And by the time I was looking for seats the good ones were always taken.

I must be in the minority. I always went to a performance to hear a concert, not see an "event." If I can't hear the performance, it isn't a concert. The comment about clubbing a seal to death rings true -- I recall my worst concert experience ever: Weather Report at the Des Moines Civic Center. Unmitigated, undifferentiated noise. Jaco Pastorius playing Blackbird was about the only time one could differentiate bass from sax from keyboard. And that was only because it was a solo number. LOL.

Your review makes me grateful I can't attend concerts any more. I'm sure I would only hate myself in the morning.
