It's one of two magnificent uses of a Pixies song in a film. The other is the opening of Kicking & Screaming. No, not the Will Ferrell/Robert Duvall soccer coaching death battle, the directorial debut of Noah Baumbach. The movie opens with the distorted crash of the beginning of Cecilia Ann from Bossanova.

"Wave of Mutilation" found a pretty good home in Southland Tales, although the movie as a larger whole was a pretty thorough disappointment.

On a more basic level, "Where Is My Mind" is perfect because, up until that last quarter of the film, the viewer didn't know that Ed Norton's character's mind has been split between him and the visage of Durden the whole time.

On an even MORE basic level, "Where Is My Mind" is perfect (at least for me) because I just love me some Pixies, dammit.
I'd sit through Gigli and think it was a good movie if it had a Pixies soundtrack.
Hmmm... I'm tempted to give it the Dark Side of Oz treatment.
