I think you guys are giving the Black Lips short shrift. This is their 6th album, they've been around for 6+ years, and their so-called flower punk sound has actually evolved lot from their really, er, raucous early singles. True, it's not for everyone - you have to have a soft spot for their atonal/nasal harmonizing, sloppy playing, basic songwriting and so on. Check out "Veni Vidi Vici" (from '07's "Good Bad Not Evil" - it's on their myspace page) for a great example of how they achieve almost fuzzed out Os Mutantes-like bliss. Of course, I'm a sucker for sloppy adenoidal punk anyway, and I fell in love with their live act, so I'm not exactly unbiased, ha-ha. Also, not sure I get the REM and Replacements references, but the "Velvets on meth" line cracked me up.

Best song on "200 Million Thousand" from what I've heard so far? "The Drop I Hold." JMHO.

Not asking you to change your minds, or even give 'em another listen...just offering a dissenting opinion. I for one can't wait for the release of "200 Million Thousand" and I'm sure it will be the subject of an upcoming Lo-Fi Mojo column, natch...

To paraphrase the Irish cop after Bugs Bunny asked "Would I turn on the gas if my friend Rocky was in there?":

    I moight, rabbit. I moight....

I've always found it funny (and, yet, sad at the same time) that nine out of ten comments in response to Popdose posts come from Popdose staffers and not from readers. What's even funnier (and, yet, sadder at the same time) is that when a non-staffer does manage to post a knowledgeable and detailed (albeit completely WRONG...I kid, I kid) opinion of their own, they are instantly asked to join the Popdose Justice League Of Rock Blog Superheroes, er, roundtable.

Now, I'm as down with the open-door policy as the next fella, but we're running low on capes and masks, guys. :)

The round table is a heavy piece of furniture. We need a lot of people to drag it out of storage every Friday.

    Ed writes for us, Darren.

I just wanted to make sure every Popdose writer was represented in the comments section of this post.

Consider this my contribution to the comments section. And, no, I really didn't want to be invited to the Chartburn Panel. Thanks for asking ... (bursts into tears, heads to the fridge)

    Me too.
  • Darren · 9 months ago
Well, of course he does! :)

Yeah, we do comment a lot on each others' posts. I choose to see it as the mark of a supportive staff. May I refill your half-empty glass, Mr. Robbins?
  • mojo · 9 months ago
I'll take a Miller, as long as you're going to the fridge.

    Shirley Temple.

Try freezing the beers for a while ... The two Troeg's I stuck in the freezer a couple hours ago and forgot about have this nice, Slurpee-like consistency.

I dig the staff comments, don't get me wrong...and I know that when the site "goes live", non-staffers will start leaving comments all over the place.

As for refilling my glass, if you can get the lid off this damn sippy cup, be my fuggin' guest.

Who knew we had such a Trisha Yearwood Appreciation Society going?
