Here's a couple of games that would also make good game types for her to star in.

Ninja Gaiden 3: The Ancient Ship Of Doom
Strider
Actraiser
Ghouls N Ghosts
Midnight Resistance
Wolverine
Herzog Zwei
Journey To Silius
The Immortal
Psychosis
Dungeon Explorer
The Rocketeer
Shadowgate

And that's just from the top of my head! There's plenty of other good games to base Laura's adventures around! Of course, Laura's game needs to be ULTRA HARD to the point where you can give up easy or burn out at a low flashpoint since everybody loves a difficult task. And remember, if you can't handle the challenge, then you can always pass the game to your dog because Laura's game is as tough as they get!

R.I.P. I thought it was Donna Summer's new song, but I quickly figured out who this woman was and bought her album..I bought every album she ever released and my favorite was "Touch".....Her rendition of "The Power of Love" is one of the greatest vocal performances ever of any artist in recorded history...She reaches through the microphone and tears your heart out with that song...When i heard she passed away, I was in shock, i never knew she was sick, but she had been out of the limelight for a long time..I always loved loved loved her voice and hope she will always be remembered as a great vocalist and not some leftover from the 80's.....Nick.....

Re: Future Retro: Laura Branigan

Thanks for the correction. When the Remember Me EP came out fans went out of their minds over the idea that the versions were supposedly not approved by Laura. I've heard what are being called Laura's actual preferred versions and they are indeed different and better.

I'm glad this post got some attention. I think Laura was a good choice to profile. She had huge hits and was also underappreciated at the same time.

Re: Future Retro: Laura Branigan

First... I was very excited to see this.. Laura was always (and still is really) one of my all time favourite singers. I cried for about three days when I haeard she had passed. to clarify on a couple of things in your review though: The actual deal on "Remember Me" was that Laura had heard the mixes made by the record company, hated them and would not give permission for them to release the songs... Her contract with them was only for the singles "Gloria 2004" and "Self Control 2004." After her passing, they took it upon themselves to release the mixes they had made as this EP and, due to different copyright laws in Germany (the country where the label is located) and the fact that ownership of the recordings is still debated, there was no good way to stop the release. Her original versions of the songs on the EP are very different. Also, to correct a couple of things, "Back in Control" was only released in South Africa, as were its two singles, the 1999 versions of Self Control and Gloria. It only contained 5 new remixes, the rest being filled with various hits in their original form, and was not really used to make a comeback as Laura was no longer signed to Atlantic records at the time. Also "Turn the Beat Around" WAS commercially released as a 12" single, just not any other format.

Re: Future Retro: Laura Branigan

Some mountains are so majestic that even brave men dare not approach.

Re: Future Retro: Laura Branigan

Great post! But how could you have neglected Laura Branigan's seminal performance and guest star role on "CHiPs"? The vague duet with Erik Estrada is priceless.

Re: Future Retro: Laura Branigan

yes, true Jennifer's version was first. I should have made that clear. It's been recorded a lot as well as having been mangled by more than a few amateurs.

thank you for the props, too.

Re: Future Retro: Laura Branigan

A very nice post that showcases a major talent, but I must make one note: Laura didn't originally record "The Power Of Love." Jennifer Rush's version is the original, recorded in 1985 on her debut self-titled album. Laura covered the song in 1987.

Also, I have to mention my favorite of all of Laura's tunes -- her song "Imagination," which appeared on the Flashdance soundtrack. Love it!

Re: Future Retro: Laura Branigan

You bet. I'm always glad to shine a spotlight on an artist that deserves to be remembered. She had great songs throughout her career. But like any adult contemporary artist you sometimes have to wade through a lot of filler to get to it. The best bet for casual fans is one of her newer greatest hits compilations which take all the hits and some key album tracks and later-day highlights. The new remixes are awesome, too.

Re: Future Retro: Laura Branigan

I'm more than willing to be corrected on this, but didn't her career suffer a little bit from her continuing to play Sun City? She seemed to be at that dangerous level of success where she was was famous enough to be villified but not in that upper echelon - Rod Stewart - where all sins are forgiven.

Re: Future Retro: Laura Branigan

Thanks for this.
