Thanks for this! I've got pretty much everything Dixon's done (don't have the newest one yet, but now that I now where to get it, it'll be in the collection soon)

Hope part two covers some of Dixon's work with Marti Jones. "Used Guitars" is one of my all-time desert island discs. Actually, all of her A&M stuff is absolutely first-rate, and she's yet to record anything that's less than way above average. (We know you love painting, Marti, but please consider getting yourself back in a recording studio soon!)

I have good news and bad news: Part Two does not cover Don's work with Marti, but our conversation did end with Marti being warned that she would soon be contacted by yours truly for her contributions to a future Popdose Guide to Marti Jones. Rest assured that I will endeavor to do a phoner with Ms. Jones as well!

I remember a time when I used to work at a TJ Maxx... Their Muzak feed was particularly awful, but the saving grace was that, for a while, they shoehorned in "Any Kind Of Lie". Then someone realized their mistake and promptly had it removed for more Celine Dion.

Cool. I'll be looking forward to it, as well as part two of the Dixon interview.

Thanks for perhaps turning DD on to a new generation of listeners. It's funny when you asked his favorite song in the collection, I said to myself, gotta be Sweet Surrender...between that and Renaissance Eyes, there is no more soulful sounding voice. Did you happen to ask him about his acting turn in the movie "Camp"...? I thought he was great in it.
Anyway thanks again: one of my favorites of all time!

I knew Don and Marti back in the day when they were favorites of ours at WGTBin Georgetown. They became good friends with my good friends, Andy Law and Katie Rentel, the station's program director and general manager respectively. I think they even attended their wedding. Truly good folks.

If you're looking for Don and Marti music, a while back, I downloaded a few things off of http://www.efolkmusic.org/ – including tracks from Don and Marti's first collaboration "Unsophisticated Time." I also downloaded a great Dixon classic called "The Night That Otis Died."

I've got every one one of Marti's major label albums – most only on vinyl, but the RCA release "Any Kind of Lie" on CD. She really was ahead of her time.
