Hey DOLT: In 1983 Bobby Goldsboro was in a major scandal, his wife & daughter accused him of assaulting them, then there was a divorce. I don't think he ever got custody of his kid again. Bobby wasn't the saint he pretended to be with is dorky songs and church choir singing in the background.

LOLLL ironically I just saw that Smother Brothers skit before I opened this page. I was reading about how HATED the song was at the time and even more now. The song is beyond dorky and sappy, and insulting to women in general. Then there's the obnoxioux church chorus singing like angels in the background....ay yi yi. I don't think they took her away, I think she RAN away - from him!

Totally agree. I stand by them also.
The New Monkees album was quite good. There will only ever be one "Monkees", and the "New Monkees" were never a threat to them.
That said: New Monkees were their own thing, inspired by the Monkees but more than a mere knock off. More of an 80's homage.
They did make one great pop/rock record. Really good listen. Unfortunately the show was poorly produced and they never really got the support they needed to succeed. They were much funnier than they were ever given credit for. Most of their promotional appearances were better than their show.
I follow New Monkees on FB, and still listen to their self titled album more than anything else that was released in 1987.

The video you are thinking of was for "Heart and Soul".
The video for "That Was Then, This is Now" was a concert style video, and a pretty good one. It charted well on MTV and was in heavy rotation, until self important pricks at MTV blacklisted the Monkees for missing some stupid event due to a schedule conflict.
In the end, the Monkees outlived MTV, which died a slow and agonizing death, while the Monkees released one of their best albums for their 50th anniversary, and it became a hit.

That's not correct. Andrew was not married to Keren. They lived together for 29 years and then separated. He was also not married to his next partner (whom he was with for two years). He remains unmarried to this day.

You really have to remember what was going on when this came out. Vietnam. And this was the number one year for casualties. Then there were the assassinations. I frankly think this song hit a nerve with the public that had already been hit in the solar plexus by these and other events. Not saying this was good or bad and yes, now we look at this through a lens of sarcasm and cynicism. That's fine, but don't denigrate people who had and still have a positive outlook to this song. I don't have any feeling about it one way or another - I was 11 or 12 when it came out so I hear it through that memory.

I don't mind the song, but will admit it was stolen from 'Piano' Smith's 1957 'Rockin' Pneumonia & The Boogie Woogie Flu', which also heavily influenced Fogerty and Quo's 'Rockin' All Over The World'.

I couldn't agree more. The song just came up on my Google faves play list, and I was reminded yet again what an achingly beautiful song this it. That led me to a Google search of its impact, and to your blog. I was saddened to learn that Karl died last year, but he's left a lasting testament to his songwriting abilities.

Demo-itis is a great record. You do have some clumsy sounding percussions - presumably programmed beats but the songs are uniformly great and I’d always lamented not being able to get the record on Cd! Finally had to pay exorbitant price to procure a Japanese import CD version that I found on internet!

I agree - I like Jules’ supposedly limited singing instrument and always preferred his versions her the Cyndi Lauper or Bangles covers because he hit notes and found melodies that the covering artists completely ignored/missed left out! I’ve always kind of enjoyed his more rockin’ side and so albums like Dreams Don’t Count and to a lesser extent Between us were never my favorites. Loved his Jules and the polar bears stuff - even some of their bad for business record and loved helping bones as well as the great puzzle. Albums like Longer to get to yesterday and Allow me are good but spottier (Deep, too soon gone and may the hard road , more reason than the wind, longer to get to yesterday, you don’t love me and longer to get to yesterday, depending are all great songs and highlights. The album More is quite good too (obvious shoulda been hit is we said goodbye). Reckless sleepers - another group he was part of for a one off- though nobody seems to like - I do! And the Elliot Easton solo album which he co-wrote with the great cars guitarist- I think was an overlooked highly underrated gem!!!

Are we to believe, this attempt of a hatch job! Look! Miss Ross, has had enoromus impact of the music industry. I think it is an attestment of her strength, and body of work that she has managed to remained a sought after entertainer for so many years. Tell us, what other female entertainer, who is as sought after, at over 60 years in this most competitive industry! I was blown away at the prices, her tickets are commanding, people are paying to see and hear her. Amazing! Simply Amazing! Someone is jealous.
