Popdose: Lost in the ’80s: Al Jarreau & Scritti Politti (?!?)

So what explains Scritti's single with Shabba Ranks? That was poptastic.

Holy crap that Scritti b-side is fantastic! You're right about it being better than most of Provision (I only liked "Boom! There She Was"). Thanks for sharing. Can't believe I never heard that one before.

The Al Jarreau track... well, obviously Scritti saved their best songs for themselves.

When I was a kid, I remember being in love with "Perfect Way" and a few years ago, I became obsessed with the Scritti back catalog. I was surprised by how different they sounded when they started out to what they wound up sounding like by the time Cupid and Psyche came out. "Songs to Remember" is a pretty fantastic album though. How can anyone not like "Jacques Derrida", with that strange rap at the end?

Thanks for the b-side! "Provision" is kind of weak, although I do have a soft spot for "Best Thing Ever." It's so...80's. It's hard for me not to like it.

Am I the only one that loved the Provision track "Sugar and Spice"? :)

I think it was Jeff who mentioned the Scritti Politti connection, not me, but I appreciate the link to my page. I'm the one who recently bugged you to write about Brent Bourgeois and/or Louie Louie for "Lost in the (Very Early) '90s."

A request? Could you do an Idiot's Guide to Scritti Politti?
