Popdose: Lost in the ’80s: Kaja(googoo), “Extra Play/Islands” | Popdose

Where did you read about the religious views of the band? I listened to Extra Play a lot when it came out, and never caught any "Christian overtones" (of course I was in middle school, so allegory may have been too subtle for me).

I always assumed their story was another "Band gets a taste of fame and lead singer becomes an insufferable prick so they dump him or he runs away to be a solo star" (see Van Halen, Haircut 100, Commodores, etc.). Then band carries on without him (and in Haircut 100 and the Commodore's cases, like Kaja, someone else in the band took over vocals).

I recall reading about the band's new Christian leaning in Star Hits of all places, then when "Bands Reunited" did an episode on the boys, it came up again. I wonder how much of it had to do with Limahl's reportedly large ego and the fact that he's gay (sort of out now).

I have a line on a Kajagoogoo interview and if it works out, I'm not going to pull punches. We'll find out - so swears Popdose!

Very interesting article. I had their first album on vinyl back in the day, but I never knew what happened to them after Limahl left. The Lion's Mouth is a pretty catchy little tune. Thanks for a great article.
