She started off as a Soul Train dancer, and Waccking and Soul Train go hand in hand. She credits Tyrone with her 'Diva' training, he taught her how to 'give attitude' on film, while a dancer on Soul Train.

The Ballroom scene pictured in "Paris is Burning" was filmed 1984 and the film did not come out till 1990....by 1994, the decorum of the Ballroom scene filmed during the 80's had completely changed do to many factors...

Vogueing/Ballroom scene reached it's zenith during the 1980s, then became known to mainstream America in the 1990's, but its advent was in the 1970's.

Re: Lost in the ’80s: Malcolm McLaren

Love this song, and thx for putting up the extended mix.

Also, pre-dating both McLaren & Madonna was Jody Watley's "Still A Thrill" video.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=...
Okay, so it's not a song about vogueing, and the style of vogueing seen in the video isn't typical ballroom, but that legendary children vibe is still turning. Jody totally broke vogueing out to the masses, as far as I'm concerned.

BTW John, I finally got to see a real NYC ball in 98, at the Warehouse. It was fierce, for about a half an hour, and then it just became a parade of queens falling backwards into splits. Most of the children looked bored. Maybe "Paris is Burning" just raised my expectations too high, or maybe the scene was just played out by then.
