Popdose: Lost in the ’90s: Chumbawamba, “Amnesia” | Popdose

I'll go one better and say that it's not a bad CD at all--it's not memorable, but its surprisingly hooky dance-pop.

I'm still baffled that Chumbawumba--initially a punk anarchist collective, not a band--had a major chart hit. Maybe someday The Mekons will finally earn that elusive Top 40 single...

Well, you know, you get knocked down, you get back up again...

Heck, weebles wobbled but they won't fall down. Darned slacker Chumbas.

One of my guilty pleasures. I wouldn't be surprised if some folks were put off by a chorus that goes "Do you suffer from long-term memory loss/I can't remember."

I remember this being one of those songs that got airplay for about two weeks on Q101 back in early 1998, then you never heard it again.

If the intro riff (along with the trumpet) sounds vaguely familiar, this was the music that VH-1 used for their "Before They Were Rock Stars" series

Wow-interesting to learn there was a second single off of this album....and I worked in a record store at the time! I don't remember us playing the full album so I've never heard this song before. Better than expected.

    I still hate "Tubthumping" though.

Though Tubthumping was good, it was also rather more less interesing than their earlier material. Their best album is Anarchy, which living in the Leeds at the same time as they were still predominantly performing their somewhat soundtracked my university days -- it was also on in a friend's house, along with, yes, Jagged Little Pill. Apart from the television and film samples between tracks (including Mr Burns from The Simpsons) the lyrics are more right on and about something rather than the more commerical lyrics on Tubthumping which are only sort about something, so as not offend anyone too much.
