Popdose: Mix Six: “Girls! Girls! Girls!”

Yay for a good 'Julie' song! I remember one particularly horrid Julie song, as sung by Barry Manilow. And my 8th grade teacher used to break out in, "Julie, Julie, Julie, do you love me" when I would appear. Good times. Finally, a Julie song that doesn't have me wishing my name were 'Julia' instead.

I always liked the Elvis song, Veronica. Good stuff. Sad, but good.

And Virginia, yay Grandma, Rip him a new one!

Until I got to work, I kept thinking the Jessie Colter song, "I'm not Lisa" was actually called "My Name is Julie." Google, Google, Google and then, well, I got my answer.

The song your 8th grade teacher sang was actually done by Bobby Sherman in 1970. The title? "Julie, Do You Love Me." :-)

I adore "Mary's Prayer" all out of proportion to its actual quality. Don't know why.

When you wrote "rip on the president" I immediately thought, "She farts on the president?" Where's the brain today? (I dunno, though--that could work for me--he should be bound and forced to feel the fury of America's bean-induced wrath.)

You could do a Mix Six just with name songs Marshall Crenshaw has recorded..."Mary Ann," "Mary Jean," "Yvonne," "Valerie," "Delilah" are five more, and that's not even counting "I'm Sorry (But So Is Brenda Lee)." Plus, of course, "Girls" from the first album...

Edye's Tune also from the great Marshall C.

Yeah, where IS your brain! :-) I too really like Mary's Prayer. But the Mary I think of when I hear this song ... well, I don't really adore all that much.

Good mix; I had a Toto's she-named songs mix tape song somewhere.. : Anna, Pamela, Carmen, Leah... plus Allman's Jessica (wife unit complains about not having here name sung).

Yeah, I could have done an entire mix of Toto "she-named" song, but that's way too much Adult Contemporary for me.

Crenshaw, Costello, and Danny Wilson...? That's a near-perfect trifecta in my world. I've been following the career of Gary Clark, lead singer for Danny Wilson, since back in the day, and he's put out some great stuff both by himself as well as with bands called King L and Transister.
