  • DavidMedsker · 1 year ago
10 is way too easy. I'll leave that one for someone else.

    2. They Might Be Giants - Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
    14. Chicago - If You Leave Me Now
    21. When in Rome - The Promise
  • Bearlinda / Matty · 1 year ago
#3 Baby Come to Me - Patty Ingram and James Austin
#10 Take My Breath Away - Berlin
    #12 Love Hangover - Diana Ross (?)
#14 Wah wah wah waaah wah waaaah wah wuh waaaaah - Chicago
#16 Almost Paradise - Mike Reno and Anne Wilson
#19 Words Get In the Way - Miami Sound Machine
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
Bearlinda / Matty - Are you two people playing together? There's a maximum of three guesses between rounds. If you are two people, you should probably play separately so there's no confusion about the number of guesses.

Also, "waaah waaaah wah" etc is not an acceptable guess.

    Thanks!

    #13 "Warsaw" by Joy Division
  • Old_Davy · 1 year ago
22 is Imaginary Lover by Atlanta Rhythm Section

I think 19 is Memphis by Johnny Rivers - is it an incorrect guess if they get the artist wrong?

Guessing that 12 is I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor
  • Old_Davy · 1 year ago
But that would be wrong Dave, it has nothing to do with cities - DOINK!
  • Gary Lucy · 1 year ago
Give credit to Davy, I couldnt think of the artist's name. I know the big switcheroo at the end where "Marie is only 3 years old..." is supposed to be all heartwarming, but I always thought it was creepy (even before the To Catch a Predator era). Good beat though. PS Nice pull on Bowie, MrsMartin.

    #15 Panic In Detroit-David Bowie
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
    Correct:
    Warsaw - Joy Division
Imaginary Lover - Atlanta Rhythm Section (which I thought would be one of the first songs guessed)
Panic in Detroit - David Bowie

    Incorrect:
    Memphis - Johnny Rivers
I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor

Yes, artist needs to be guessed correctly.

I anticipated that "Love Hangover" would be guessed for #12, but I didn't expect "I Will Survive". I'll have to listen for that.

Is #5 Vienna by Billy Joel?

#24 is driving me nuts. It's one that I know I've heard but I just can't place it!
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
"Vienna" by Billy Joel is correct.
  • editorgrrl · 1 year ago
#12 Don't Leave Me This Way - Thelma Houston
  • Chris · 1 year ago
19 is definitely 'Memphis Tennessee' so it's just a case of getting the right version - Chuck Berry?

6 sounds like it might be Johnny Cash but I can't place the song - Folsom Prison Blues?
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
19 is "Memphis", and was a big hit version, but not Chuck Berry. If I were at home, I'd choose another more distinctive section of the song.

    6 is not Johnny Cash.

"Don't Leave Me This Way" by Thelma Houston is correct. I've always loved that coda.

Puzzle Song: Cities - Talking Heads (drcastrato)

I'll post some clues in a few minutes.
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
1 - This still-well-known number one song has also been heard song on helium and as the tune for the chant sung by fans of an English football team.

4 - A top five hit and one-hit wonder, this song was written by a songwriter with many hits for many different musicians, who sometimes wrote entire albums for musicians. This song was originally recorded on one such album (though not this version of it).

6 - Surprised this is still around. A hit instrumental by probably the most successful composer of pop instrumentals in the rock era.

8 - A long album track from a much-praised recent album by a long-running indie band for whom this album was seen as a leap forward or a peak by many reviewers.

11 - An album track on an acclaimed classic rock album, a self-titled album that is not the artist's first album. This song was sung by Colin Farrell and Dallas Roberts in a movie.

    17. An instrumental hit by a very famous musician who was not known for hit singles. When this song hit number one, the musician was at that time the oldest musician to have a number one single in the U.S.

    19. "Memphis", yes, in a hit instrumental version by guitarist who had a deep influence on the blues-rock sound.

    20. 1973 top-20 hit by a one-hit wonder. It was produced and co-written by Thom Bell, and the band toured with pre-Chic Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards.

    24. Possibly the most obscure song here. From a recent album by a prolific indie duo. This is the only representation of an African city in the game.
