Popdose: Name That Tune, Game Seventeen

  • Dr. Corndog · 1 year ago
    8. She's a Beauty - The Tubes
    19. Earn Enough For Us - XTC
    24. Cry Like a Baby - Box Tops
  • Dr. Corndog · 1 year ago
And a wild-ass guess at the puzzle song:

Get it On (Bang a Gong) - T. rex
  • Jerry · 1 year ago
    21. Black Velvet - Alannah Myles

And I'm not too proud to jump on this week's "gimme":

    23. Nasty - Janet Jackson
  • nhmehta · 1 year ago
Wow, this is so much easier when you catch this puzzle early. (Usually there are 30 comments before I show up.)

    1. "Calling All Angels" by Train
    3. "Underneath It All" by No Doubt
    14. "It's Raining McC -- uh, Men" by the Weather Girls
  • Rich · 1 year ago
22 - "Urgent" Foreigner. (I think that's the right one.)
  • DavidMedsker · 1 year ago
Not 100% sure on either of these...

    2. Peaceful Easy Feeling - The Eagles
    12. Rock Your Baby - George McRae
  • DavidMedsker · 1 year ago
    Oh, one more:

    16. Hot Girls in Love - Loverboy
  • Brian Ibbott · 1 year ago
    #17 - Over and Over - Dave Clark 5
    #21 - Black Velvet - Alannah Miles
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
All regular song guesses so far are correct except "Peaceful Easy Feeling".

"Bang a Gong" is not the puzzle song.

It's really hard to come up with any clip of "Nasty" that isn't a giveaway, no matter how short.
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
I was sort of hoping that "Urgent" would elicit a couple of Supertramp guesses.
  • Rich · 1 year ago
I've been wrong on more guesses than I've been right, in your contests, but that horn gave "Urgent" away. (In my pocket universe, that song is deeply connected to Legos, Star Wars figs, and a TI-99.)
  • Brian Ibbott · 1 year ago
Whoops - missed that previous guess for Alannah.
  • MC_Snocap · 1 year ago
    Hmmmm ...
#2 - "Lying Eyes" by The Eagles
#9 - "Use Ta Be My Girl" by the O'Jays
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
"Use Ta Be My Girl" by the O'Jays is correct.

"Lyin' Eyes" by the Eagles is incorrect.

"Earth Angel" is a wonderful song. But #7 is not "Earth Angel".
  • MatthewBolin · 1 year ago
Puzzle Song: "This Song", George Harrison
  • MatthewBolin · 1 year ago
    7. Every Morning - Sugar Ray
  • MatthewBolin · 1 year ago
    11. Always There for You - Stryper
  • Ken (Gaper's Blog) · 1 year ago
#25 "History Lesson Part II"- Minutemen.

Cool, I got the coolest song of the bunch, I'm surprised Dr. Corndog didn't, what with corndog being an integral part of that song and all.
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
Ding ding ding! MathewBolin nails the puzzle song: "This Song" by George Harrison, written in the aftermath of losing the "My Sweet Lord"/"He's So Fine" plagiarism case (an asinine decision, IMGDO). It includes the falsetto aside "Could be sugar pie, honey bunch" (which was delivered by Eric Idle when Harrison performed the song on Saturday Night Live). Nicely done, MatthewBolin.

"Every Morning" by Sugar Ray is also correct.

"Always There for You" by Stryper" is incorrect.
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
"History Lesson Part 2" by the Minutemen is correct.

    15. Easy - The Commodores
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
"Easy" by the Commodores is correct. I thought that one might be one of the early giveaways.
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
    hints:

#5 is a very famous 1960s song by a successful duo. It's hard to think of a more substantial hint that doesn't give it away, so I'll leave it at that. The clip doesn't sound like the rest of the song, but I'm still surprised someone hasn't got it.

#10 is a big 1960s hit cover of a song from an influential musical.

#11 is a 1990s hit, the title track of an album, but not the biggest hit from the album.

#13 is another big 1960s hit, the biggest hit by a band who had several. Like #10 and unlike #5, this song is counterculture-inspired.

#18 is the only remaining song that was not a hit single. An 1970s album track from arguably the greatest album by one of the most influential bands ever.
