Chris has it! And has the clue right, too. Nick Lowe's grisly "Marie Provost", from his great, recently enhanced debut album Jesus of Cool.

Old Davy came close.

Lowe got the actress's name wrong, by the way; she was Marie Prevost. And she was from Ontario, Denver, and Los Angeles, so probably didn't speak with a Bronx accent, as Chuck Palahniuk has it in Snuff, and it was alcoholism, eating disorders, and depression that killed her career, not the advent of the talkies. She did have her arms and legs chewed up by her poor dog, though.
