And has the clue right, too. Nick Lowe's grisly "Marie Provost", from his great, recently enhanced debut album &lt;i&gt;Jesus of Cool&lt;/i&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Old Davy came close.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Lowe got the actress's name wrong, by the way; she was Marie Prevost.  And she was from Ontario, Denver, and Los Angeles, so probably didn't speak with a Bronx accent, as Chuck Palahniuk has it in &lt;i&gt;Snuff&lt;/i&gt;, and it was alcoholism, eating disorders, and depression that killed her career, not the advent of the talkies.
