  • DavidMedsker · 1 year ago
    4) Madonna, "Vogue"
    9) John Lennon, "Nobody Told Me"
    20) Paul Davis, "I Go Crazy"

Ooh, I like the red lettering. I'll have to use that for the Cover Me quizzes...
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
Yeah, it does jump out pretty well, and still fits with the Popdose color scheme.

Can you reveal the unguessed songs from last week? One of them drove me nuts. Thanks.
  • Jerry · 1 year ago
Actually, it's from two weeks ago, the 8/29 game. Clip #16. I know. I'm obsessed.
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
Right, sorry about that! It was "Impulsive" by Wilson Phillips.
  • Jerry · 1 year ago
Okay, I'm officially embarrassed - though I guess I should be proud I COULDN'T recognize a Wilson Phillips song.

    Puzzle Song (25)
  • MatthewBolin · 1 year ago
    19. Come to My Window - Melissa Etheridge
  • mrsmartin · 1 year ago
    #21-Revolution-The Beatles
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
"Revolution" and "Come to My Window" are both correct.
  • MatthewBolin · 1 year ago
Well, the Puzzle Song is "Send in the Clowns".
There are so many damn versions of that song, but it sounds like it's probably the one most people think of nowadays, which is the one by Judy Collins. (And if it's not Judy, hopefully its the original version by Glynis Johns.)
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
Matthew Bolin takes the puzzle song! It is the original version of "Send in the Clowns," sung by Glynis Johns on the original Broadway soundtrack of A Little Night Music. Nicely guessed!

There are still seven regular songs to guess. Anyone want to venture the acrostic?

    #15 wire EX LION TAMER
  • arensb · 1 year ago
15: Wire, Ex Lion Tamer, from Pink Flag.

(Not that I'm a Wire fan or anything, but I once made a detour through rural Iowa, just so I could listen to Wire's song "Map Reference 41°N 93°W" at 41 degrees north, 93 degrees west.)
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
It's very weird that two people nailed "Ex Lion Tamer" by Wire four minutes apart.

Arensb, I bow to few in my passion for Wire -- Chairs Missing is my favorite rock album of all time -- but you've got me beat.
  • arensb · 1 year ago
For what it's worth, it was during one of those road-trip vacations when going there was more important than the destination. I'd already driven 1500 miles to Missouri for pie, so when I was coming back after visiting a friend in Council Bluffs, it made sense to visit 41N 93W just to avoid highways. The Wire connection was just gravy on top of that (though they do have good gravy in Iowa).
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
    But what was there?
  • arensb · 1 year ago
It's a 1-degree by 1-degree area. Even in Iowa, it contains lots of stuff, including Des Moines. But the part that I saw had a lot of farmland.

Oh, and also the smallest chapel I've ever seen.
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
I guess it does refine altitude.
  • M. · 1 year ago

  • Scraps · 1 year ago
This is an odd week. All the ones I thought were hard have been guessed. Of the remaining five songs, four of them were number 1 singles in the U.S., and the other peaked at number 4. Among them are two movie themes and a TV theme; one cover song; one side of a two-sided hit; a song by a two-hit wonder; and a song that was the best-selling song of the year.
  • Fred · 1 year ago
(Drat: the one time I get to play this- because no one is around at work- and I'm stuck.)

#18 is driving me nuts; I keep thinking that it's the "make out" theme from when Marmalard and his girlfriend are parking in Animal House. Alas, no idea what that would actually be called, or who wrote it (Elmer Bernstein?)
  • Fred · 1 year ago
Also, if I'm not crazy, #1 is "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" by Stevie Wonder.
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
18 does feature in Animal House.

You are not, I think, crazy, but 1 is not "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" by Stevie Wonder.

    18. Theme from A Summer Place - Percy Faith & His Orchestra
  • MatthewBolin · 1 year ago
    12. Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To) - Diana Ross
  • MatthewBolin · 1 year ago
    10. Theme from S.W.A.T. - Rhythm Heritage
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
Themes from a Summer Place, Mahogany, and S.W.A.T. are all correct.

Two songs left: a top five hit cover by a band with many hit covers, and a number one hit that's one half of one of the greatest two-sided hits ever, by a band with many hits that helped invent a genre.

    1. Show Must Go On, The - Three Dog Night

I have no idea what #3 is but from your clue I think maybe I should. <embarrassed red face>
  • MichaelFortes · 1 year ago
#3 is "Everybody is a Star" by Sly & the Family Stone.
  • Scraps · 1 year ago
Both guesses are correct, and that wraps up the game! Thanks everyone for playing the game out.

"The Show Must Go On" was an early Leo Sayer song, and while the Three Dog Night has the kind of hit-single arrangement and energy that they were so good at, they changed the crucial lyric from Sayer's original "I won't let the show go on" to "I must let the show go on", which has always ruined their version of the song for me.

"Everybody Is a Star" was the other side of "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)", which has to be in the top ten double-sided singles ever.
