Thanks everyone for playing the game out.

"The Show Must Go On" was an early Leo Sayer song, and while the Three Dog Night has the kind of hit-single arrangement and energy that they were so good at, they changed the crucial lyric from Sayer's original "I won't let the show go on" to "I must let the show go on", which has always ruined their version of the song for me.

"Everybody Is a Star" was the other side of "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)", which has to be in the top ten double-sided singles ever.

Re: Name That Tune, Game Twenty-Nine

#3 is "Everybody is a Star" by Sly & the Family Stone.

Re: Name That Tune, Game Twenty-Nine

1. All the ones I thought were hard have been guessed. Of the remaining five songs, four of them were number 1 singles in the U.S., and the other peaked at number 4. Among them are two movie themes and a TV theme; one cover song; one side of a two-sided hit; a song by a two-hit wonder; and a song that was the best-selling song of the year.

Re: Name That Tune, Game Twenty-Nine

STEVE MEANT STAGE NOT CIRCUS is the acrostic.

01 S
02 T This Is It - Kenny Loggins (gary lucy)
03 E
04 V Vogue - Madonna (david medsker)
05 E E.I. - Nelly (marko)
06 M Mother Popcorn - James Brown (gray flannel suit)
07 E Everything I Own - Bread (mrs martin/jamie lyon)
08 A Acrobat - U2 (marko)
09 N Nobody Told Me - John Lennon (david medsker)
10 T
11 S Something So Strong - Crowded House (jerry)
12 T
13 A Arthur's Theme - Christopher Cross (mrs martin)
14 G [The] Great Valerio - Richard & Linda Thompson (m)
15 E Ex Lion Tamer - Wire (sane)
16 N 96 Tears - ? and the Mysterians (mrs martin)
17 O Only in My Dreams - Debbie Gibson (jerry)
18 T
19 C Come to My Window - Melissa Etheridge (matthew bolin)
20 I I Go Crazy - Paul Davis (david medsker)
21 R Revolution - The Beatles (mrs martin)
22 C Cut Your Hair - Pavement (marko)
23 U Union of the Snake - Duran Duran (jerry)
24 S Sideshow - Blue Magic (gary lucy)

Puzzle Song - Send in the Clowns - Glynis Johns (matthew bolin)

Re: Name That Tune, Game Twenty-Nine

But what was there?

Re: Name That Tune, Game Twenty-Nine

Acrostic-Steve meant stage not circus?

Re: Name That Tune, Game Twenty-Nine

For what it's worth, it was during one of those road-trip vacations when going there was more important than the destination. I'd already driven 1500 miles to Missouri for pie, so when I was coming back after visiting a friend in Council Bluffs, it made sense to visit 41N 93W just to avoid highways. The Wire connection was just gravy on top of that (though they do have good gravy in Iowa).

Re: Name That Tune, Game Twenty-Nine

Five songs left.
