I had no idea so many songs could fit the clue at this point.

It's not "Red Red Wine" by Neil Diamond or "Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie. But it is one of those two musicians.

Ah, shoot, to you guys that would be somebody like Elvis Costello! To me, that person would be Tony Iommi. Or to deconstruct it further, a tie between J.S. Bach and Robert Johnson. Thus the complete fail that has been me. But since the sound clip obviously doesn’t help me, I’ll keep trying with the clues . . . .It’s not like I could be working or anything . . .

The puzzle song is by one of rock's most famous and influential figures, and album track from an album that was not perhaps one of his most commercially successful but is one of a run of critically acclaimed albums.

The puzzle song was also covered as a single by an influential Birmingham post-punk band a few years later.
