The description of the imagery, the eye-rolling title, the constant assertions that drama doesn't conclude so much as it just peters out whimperingly all stink of pretense, as if Wong was trying to make a big statement with a parody of an art film only to make, ta-dah, an art film.

And I can't buy into the concept of characters trying to "find themselves". It's an inherently selfish Boomer codeword for screwing around and getting by on burger-flipping, and in that I just can't possibly work up an iota of concern.

I loved Zabriskie Point then, and I'd love to love it now. Alas it is not available on dvd. If there was any small amount of good that could have come out of the great director's death last year it would have been the release of Zabriskie Point on dvd.
