Popdose: No Concessions: Ten Summer Movies You Should See Before You Die

"Iron Man" and "Speed Racer" are going to be AWESOME, if only from a visual standpoint. In particular, I think the former is going to be one of the superhero movies to beat...not just for this summer, but for all time. Big words, I know, but between the footage I've seen and the love I know director Jon Favreau has for the material, I'm really just that hopeful.

Few movies have ever haunted me the way Grizzly Man did. I'll probably go check out Hertzog's new one.

Oh yeah, I am so ready for the new Indiana Jones.

I'm very happy that they are going to use less CGI. Too many movies these days rely on CGI to drive the story while ignoring the fact that a REAL plot would work so much better.

Also, if you want your fill of Indiana Jones, head over to Vanity Fair for a great writeup on the new movie:

I have loads of faith in Choke and Fox Searchlight. For your information, Fox Searchlight is who released both Sideways and 28 Days Later. As far as I can tell, they have better success releasing indies than a lot of other companies. Plus, I can't wait for a movie version of Choke because the book is excellent.

Hellboy 2 may be an unneccessary, but I think the first one was one of the best Superhero movies ever made. Ron Perlman is just hilarious and brilliant in it. I'm curious to see what they came up with for 2. And Meet Dave I agree looks dumb, but it was written by Bill Corbett ,the second guy to play Crow on Mystery Science Theather (sci fi era). I do remember him saying in an interview that his screenplay did get changed around and possibly not to his liking, but I think it's worth seeing just for how hilarious he is.

Moving on up, kids...I'm pleased. Let's dislodge that other guy and turn the Popdose beat around to movies...

I like the HELLBOY 2 trailers. So I'm willing to swap it out for CHOKE, which will now open (more sensibly, I think) on 9/26. My cousin's son worked on CHOKE, so it has that in its favor, too.
