My stomach will still be in knots up to when a final winner is announced and the other concedes. For all that has gone on these past months, there shouldn't be a doubt in anyone's mind that we're on the wrong track and need to jump off, and fast.
AND YET.
This morning I overheard a conversation where two (I initially assumed) moderately intelligent folks were discussing how the Republicans were turning it all around. See, the gas price is going down. This is all a master plan to get the OPEC nations right where we want them. Once that happens, we flip all the switches and, bam, America's the superpower once again.
I almost choked on my coffee.
While I do believe there are buzzwords being floated Obama's way, buzzwords as code for "black guy", these two weren't necessarily speaking in code, yet in the conversation I vaguely heard the desperation, the need for each to convince themselves that they'll be voting for McCain because he's the architect of some Right Wing master plan to regain American global dominance. Essentially, they're voting McCain because he represents the old comfortable standard, but they don't want people to think it's because they're voting against black, so they'll grab at any preposterous straw shoved at them.
My fear is that, for all the populace bravado, sneering and jeering at the scary haunted house, when the time comes to step inside and sleep for the night, they'll chicken out at the last minute.

So finally oh redneck Messiah Saint Ron of the Raygun - you got your wish... It IS now mourning in America............
From a nonWhite ALL I can say is, what TOOK you so long, and why is it our first choice is at best the 'leser evil'? He uses oxymorons like 'clean coal' 'safe nuclear power' my Gawdz what's next the safe cigarette? the only a little bit pregnant pregnancy test? Justice for poor folks???
But even if he IS as Corporately owned and operated as every other politician I give him credit, he IS powerfully motivational and he HAS put himself into a corner where we can possibly get another FDR moment.
BUT If the FundySleazoids like Connell (google Spoonamore Connel RICO lawsuit in Ohio etc) steal THIS one.... I think it just might get ugly. I think on the week after the 4th I'm gonna hole up with canned goods and bottled water. :P
But in the meantime I wish all of you and yours the best we can get from what's left of the world since Gollum W gave the Ring to Cheney

A few days after the GOP convention,I was having lunch with a former boss of mine (he's actually the owner of the company I worked for) and he was just amazed at how fast the media spotlight went from Obama's nomination speech to "Palin Mania." At that point, the polls reflected a McCain lead and my former boss wondered how Obama was going to turn things around. My view was that if Obama just stayed focused on bread and butter issues he could turn things around. It took a few weeks, and some stumbling, but he was able to do it -- with a lot of help from our financial meltdown, and the Republican embrace of socialism. Also, not taking the constant Right Wing baiting has been another point of strength Obama has been pretty consistent on, and I think it showed that his focus can't easily be redirected by the Noise Machine.
