Popdose: Popdose Interview: Matthew Sweet

I am positively giddy about the prospect of Sid & Susie covering something from Avalon.

Same here. They'd knock "Take A Chance With Me" out of the park.

Fantastic stuff! Well done, Popdose readers!

Worth noting - the 10 bonus tracks are available in what looks like an Amazon exclusive MP3 download, listed as disc two at the following link:

    http://snipurl.com/nngg7

Also, Bad Ass and some of the bonus material that Matthew mentions for Sunshine Lies can be found on the Itunes download of Sunshine Lies (6 bonus tracks) and I think there are 4 bonus tracks on the vinyl edition. There are definitely some bonus tracks on the Itunes download that aren't on the vinyl version, and vice-versa - Yep, you'll need both.

Frikkin' great read - probably the most comprehensive interview from Sweet that I've read to date. Covering the Bridges, Thorns, etc! Awesome!

I highly recommend that Bridges album for anyone that is a Sweet fan - it is really good, as described Fleetwood Macish type stuff, and they put on a great live show, if you should get the chance to see them. I was lucky enough to see them twice - once with The Bangles, and once with Sweet.

When I saw them with The Bangles, the two groups came together towards the end of the night for a CSN cover - Wasted On The Way, I think? It was AMAZING, all of those female harmonies together.

But hey, this is a Matthew Sweet interview - and a really good one...nicely done!

The bonus tracks are available on Amazon and also on eMusic -- but not on iTunes.

    Nicely done as always, Will!

All of UNDER THE COVERS VOL. 2 is on ITunes, 26 tracks total. Unless there's more...great interview.

The bonus tracks must have gone up since I looked at 8:30 pdt. Swear they weren't there when I searched for them...

I like "Killer Queen" the best; sort-of showtune-like.
  • Daburcor · 4 months ago
Yeah, "Killer Queen" is my favorite as well. Other than Matthew Sweet, Queen are my favorite musicians, so that one was a real treat. "Marquee Moon" is also really awesome.
  • Matt · 4 months ago
yeah, that had to have been a late add - they weren't there at the time that I made the above comment :-)

The Bridges album IS really good. I went to see Matthew Sweet in November, and they were the openers. I was there really, REALLY early so I got to hear the soundchecks for both bands (I also got to meet everyone, which was awesome). And, based on The Bridges soundcheck alone, I immediately bought their CD from the merch booth when the doors finally opened. I'd love to see them again, and anxiously await any future records!

Great, great read - and thanks for getting both of my questions in! I'll second the Bridges recommendation (unsurprisingly, since I was the one who asked the question) - if you like harmonies and Fleetwood Mac, chances are you'll enjoy the album (and Matthew did a great job producing it, too).

This is a great read, Will. Nicely done. I love the "What has Barry Manilow done?" part. Personable guy with a sense of humor. Very cool.

Terrific read. Matthew's always been a favorite of mine. Looking forward to the new Sid n Susie, Bangles and anything else he is associated with! I, for one, would love to see an official rarities compilation.
