Popdose: Scary Monsters and Super Creeps

I will give these songs a listen as soon as I can squirrel myself away to a dark room. The only song/band that I am familiar with is 9"nails. Fixed is what I wish Trent would do more of, that was my favorite "crazy shit" back in the day; stuff like Happiness in Slavery is killer, but it can get to be a little annoying. I've met Danzig a couple of times at comicon and he seems way cool (a little to into the sexy demon comics though), but I've never cared for his music.
I've often wondered about so-called evil/scary music. I remember reading Anton Levay saying that Metal wasn't evil, but that "Yes, we have no bananas" was. Ever since although I may rock out to the music, I never got a creepy or evil vibe that I think a lot of folks do. Maybe these tunes will change "my tune".

I get that from LaVey's perspective. I'm sure Amy Grant was much more evil to him than any metal band. I listen to metal more for just plain entertainment than the lyrical content - so all those bands with satanic lyrics really don't bother me at all. That said, there are definitely many metal songs where the pure anger and venom in the song just gets to me.

Fixed really is some crazy shit. I pull it out every now and then when I'm in one of my more experimental modes with songs and give it a chance. I want to like it, but it's taxing on the brain after a while.

These are great songs. Is that a bit of Friday the 13th "kill kill kill ma ma ma" I hear in Commencement? The singer from Khanate sounds like unholy love child of the two AC/DC singers!

How was 'Victim' by The Golden Palominos omitted from this list? Though it is primarily a spoken-word track, there is subtle background music simmering under the increasingly frantic vocals (for lack of a better word). Here is a link to the lyrics, though without actually hearing them in the context of the song itself and the emotions of the vocalist it might not pack such a punch. Really. You need to go and listen to this song and then come back and add it to this list!!

Definitely creeepy, Dave! I will use these if my nieces -- who just might be visiting for Halloween this year -- start acting up.

This Halloween, I want to scare the kiddies :)
I want to play drone, funeral doom, dark ambient, black metal, and noise on some portable speakers and just go walking around.
