There are few things more entertaining on planet Earth than watching a guy who’s recently gone through some sort of emotional distress. I once stopped by a buddy’s place after having to put my dog to sleep; clearly having no idea what the accepted etiquette in such a situat ... Continue reading »

  • I actually have plans to watch Quadrophenia sometime quite soon.
  • Well, you see, the champagne, baked beans (a reference to the "Who Sell Out" cover) and chocolate spewing out of the television symbolize the guilt she feels into turning her son into a blind deaf-mute. She wallows in her guilt and revels in it, because it allows her to be the cheating slut that she really is (hence, the pillow humping). And when the drunken sailor comes into the room, and it is again spotlessly virgin white, you realize it was all a hallucination. Did you notice the pure white carnations in the pinball-shaped vase? Those symbolize her salvation, which comes in the way of her son, Tommy, who is really a Christ-like symbol in the story. (Tommy gets a huge cult-like following but then his flock turns on him at the end).

You can analyze the film to death, but it still doesn't improve it. It is really quite hilariously bad. I mean "Rocky Horror" bad. It would be better if people started throwing baked beans at the screen during this scene.
  • I got into the Who because of the Tommy album (albeit 13 years after its original release). A year later I saw the Tommy film. And because of that, I can't listen to the original album without thinking of that hideous film.

    Still love the band, though.
  • Wow... memories of that day came flooding back. I remember laughing hysterically, both out of the sheer awful-ness of the acting and the fact that Roger Daltrey appeared to get smacked around a lot (and i think there was one scene that we rewinded (yay VHS!) and watched over & over just to see Daltrey's head get hit in slow motion).

    Bitches, man.
  • Heh--Ken Russell. You can see the clip here now:

One of those shots looks like the TV is waterboarding Ann-Margaret. Chocolateboarding...?
  • Who was the girl? I want to say Erica.... or my sister. That's all I remember.
