The Popdose 100: The Best Movies of the Decade
The track was written by Kimberly Rew and Vince De La Cruz, both from Katrina and the Waves - and knowing that (which I did not, prior to today), it makes total sense, because it sounds like a Katrina and the Waves song.
So if Fright Night was out in 1985, Starship and April Wine must have recorded this song around the same time.....and how pissed must they have been to discover that they had both recorded the same song? I always dug the Starship version, and the April Wine version is equally likable.
And then the Waves recorded the song for their "comeback" album in the late 80's, I think.
Big fan of the movie, BTW. I remember seeing it in the theatre, & a couple times on TV over the years. Very entertaining.
When I was a child in the late 70s I went through an obsession with vampires. I was absolutely terrified by anything which I could remotely associate with them (the colour red, canine teeth.)
I have an early memory of being frightened by April Wine's "Tonight Is A Wonderful Time To Fall In Love." To my four year old mind, there seemed something "wrong" with that singer's voice- something impish, almost goblin-esque. And combined with the idea of "night" (when vampires come out to roam) the song freaked me out.
So I guess it's fitting that April Wine are on the FRIGHT NIGHT soundtrack.
