I think the mayor's term there is 2 years and he decided not to run again, probably because he felt nobody had the stones to get anything done.

At least, I like to think of it that way.

Americans love celebrities. He was only mayor for two years -- does Carmel have shorter terms of office than most other cities, or did Eastwood quit in the middle of his term?

I do know that residents suspected that he wanted to be mayor only so he could change the regulations to allow a parking garage for his restaurant. The fools still voted for him by an absurd number like 70/30, then proceeded to bitch and moan about him.

Then he painted the town red and renamed it to Hell.

Thanks, Arend. I didn't know that about Eastwood, but that's funny/scary. I did read that once he found himself in a Carmel resident's garage with some city council members who were determining if the slant of the resident's roof followed certain neighborly regulations, he decided he didn't want to be mayor anymore.

An article I found did a "huckleberry" joke. I'm not a "Tombstone" fan, but last night as I was finishing up my fact checking I did think, "Oh, wait, people might expect a 'Tombstone' joke in here about upholding the law." But this article is already way too long as is, and I was sleepy.
