It sounds like you've seen more episodes of "Five-O" than I have. I've seen quite a few, even from the early seasons, but I wouldn't call myself a fan. Like I said, to each his/her own.

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

It looks like my previous response got deleted, so I'll post it back. You saw a final episode and used dialogue from that as an example of dialogue from the series as a whole? If the dialogue from all 12 seasons was what you say it, I would remember a lot more examples than from one show. It's not like every line was over-the-top and exaggerated. Also, Jack Lord was not using cue cards all the time. He only did so in one 12 season show that is on record, because an actor who was in it saw him do so. Other actors who appeared with him didn't see such a thing.

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

Season 12, Robert? A lot of people found fault with Season 12. They had new writers who were not as good as in the past. It's not representative of the whole series. The dialogue was written for the purpose that dialogue exists - to move a story along and to show interaction amongst the characters. Like I said, they were not talking the way you described in every show. These lines were minimal to a point where they would stand out, but were not that common.

P.S. Jack was not reading from cue cards all the time. I was only in Season 12, according to one actor who guest-starred in an episode, that he saw Jack using them. The rest of the time, he was memorizing his lines like the other actors should have been. There were guest stars who used cue cards, because they spent all their time partying, but no one's telling any names.

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

I don't think the dialogue on the original "Hawaii Five-O" was subtle at all, but to each his/her own. The two examples I cited in that one paragraph near the end, if I remember correctly, both came from a final-season episode.

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

Thank you!

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

How old are you? I doubt you're a spring chicken. Jack was 47 when the show premiered. That's old? To dislike someone because of their age is mean and shallow. Kam Fong and Richard Denning were two years older than Jack, so I guess you don't like them now, either. The world is not made of 20-year-olds, nor would anyone under 40 be convincing as a chief of police.

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

Excuse me, but Jack Lord was not "cough" stiff. You're saying he never showed emotions and personality? What were you watching then? He was a chief of police on a crime drama, so he's not going to be laughing and smiling. He's going to be serious. Stiff means not making facial expressions or speaking in different vocal tones. You'd have to be blind and deaf to say that about Jack. He made facial expressions and spoke with inflection. I see very little in comparison with Caruso. To say they are very similar shows a poor perception of Jack Lord's acting, and no common sense.

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

Hawaii Five-O's dialogue was not "wonderfully bad." They were being creative with it, which is more than what I can say for the generic, dull dialogue on a lot of modern shows, including CSI: Miami. Those one-liners were not the basis of the dialogue. It was not like people were talking like that in every line. Talk about cherry picking. How should the dialogue have been written to suit your satisfaction?

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

Just read this because I was looking up some articles which mention Jack Lord...An excellent bit of writing!

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

Just because Jack was "old" you didn't like him? And yes, the wrinkles that have shown up under my eyes in the past year or so aren't too forgiving.

Thanks for reading.

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

Hmm... I just read this article, and it is very interesting... He probably enjoys the fact that the show is highly succesful and I think it's somehow normal. In my opinion, Horatio Caine's character is much more interesting -in general- than the ones from CSI and CSI:NY. It has much more style and since Caruso has played in NYPD Blue, he definetly knows how to handle such a role. I personally love the show, I haven't watched ALL of it because here in Greece it shows on TV the 3rd Season (currently), but I have checked out many videos on Youtube, and I don't think there have been so many changes in his character. I don't mind about the appearance, to me he's very good-looking. OK, he could be somehow better but I like him anyway. And I don't think he's arrogant at all, like some people say. Even if he is, he deserves it, because he's now VERY famous, and rich. If I was in his position I'd be worse, perhaps. I think he's very OK, and I don't understand why some people are so offensive towards him.
P.S: I liked Jade, and whenever I watch it I cannot find something bad that would be an "excuse" for some people to criticise it this way. Maybe it is what he said, that people thought negatively of this film because he had left NYPD Blue before, and he was considered "the bad guy"... But nevermind, the man's a very good actor, and I think he is very handsome. Who cares about the wrinkles so much? Everybody's gonna have them one day anyway!

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

Interesting comparison, especially since a lot of people would automatically compare Caruso to William Shatner rather than Leonard Nimoy because of the ham-fisted acting style. (I, like Ben Stiller, find Shatner's style endearing, especially before he got all ironic about it in the mid-'80s starting with that time he hosted "SNL.") Incidentally, Caruso appeared on an episode of "T.J. Hooker" in 1983.

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

I like David Caruso. Yeah, it's morbid, but he loves children and he's got that creepy voice, so you connect the dots.

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

He's so overly sympathetic.....
Some would call that cheesy.
And people who collect things about themselves and hang up posters from themselves in their house - I think they are kind of weird.
In one TV Guide Interview Caruso admitted to doing it. Partly because that voice sounds creepy even when it's supposed to sound reassuring.

He's so overly sympathetic to every single character - goes to all the funerals, goes out of his way to help people find sisters or children, or whatever. All with his creepy voice.

He has to be in on the joke. Just like R. Kelly.

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

YUP. October 2006 Caruso's face looked really bad that some of us came to the conclusion that Caruso may have had a row of very intense dates with Jack Daniels, from Lynchburg, Tennessee.
Many actors presumed dry relapse once or twice. I don't think Caruso is an exception.

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

'm wondering if people are so interested in his personal life because he doesn't talk to the press that much.

Of camera Caruso is not a very stellar human being.3 divorces, two failed relationships. Our PIA has been especially well-behaved in your blog. Only, what, 3 names so far, Sweet Cheeks?

I'm not up on it well enough to argue with IMDb and don't intend to watch it anytime soon, but I thought Caruso only did 5 episodes of Hill Street Blues. I remember him well as Tommy Mann and, of course, John Kelly. BTW, I also missed his last NYPD Blue episode until last year (bless TNT).

Re: Sugar Water: The Second Coming … of David Caruso

They talk about his character because people like to make fun of him.
