I feel your pain, man - albeit on a lesser scale. The MP3 revolution is a great, great thing, but it's a scary thought that a fall, or a virus, or a close encounter with a ceramic magnet, can wipe it all away.

My daughter doesn't own a single store-bought CD. Her experience of music is entirely digital - which, I suppose, means she's got less clutter in her life; but it's all too ephemeral for me. Give me a CD with the book and the fold-out, or a shellac 78 I can hold in my hand and feel the grooves under my fingertips.

I liked that Peter Gabriel song the first time I heard it. It would have been a huge hit for him if he had released it 15-20 years earlier. instead, it came and went almost unnoticed. I would never have even known about it if I hadn't seen the movie in which it was featured.

I second the love for Farrenheit. I had almost forgotten about them until Charlie Farren showed up doing some backing vocals for the last Boston album. His voice was a great fit.

Farrenheit! Nice. That's one of those albums I wish was available through iTunes for download...though, to be fair, I can imagine it's not really what you'd call a hot commodity. (I actually only know one other person who still proclaims to be a fan of those guys.)

I'll be writing about Across the Universe in a week or two. It doesn't really succeed as a complete film, but it's got some wonderful moments.
