Why let Christmas have all the mellow? I think Hanukkah needs some scat...Scatukkah anyone? 8 days of scat! RAWK!

Re: The Seventh Day of Mellowmas: Scatmas!

Thanx. I was clueless. I was in Buffalo when the Law School opened and all I knew was a Spyro Gyra announcement in the elevator for a show back in dare I say 1975 when OJ was still OK in the Buffalo Bills land. The commentary was kinda funny. LAter I almost went down an elevator shaft in the then new Ellicott Complex and have had a mental block. Merry Mellowmas and and happy Festivus!

Re: The Seventh Day of Mellowmas: Scatmas!

I enjoy good vocal improvisation when the improviser is inspired and, you know, good at it (think Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughan). Even orchestrated wordless vocals have their place (Bobby McFerrin, or even the vocalists in Pat Metheny's larger bands). But it can be ob-friggin'-noxious, as is the case here (or, you know, when Dave Matthews or the Spin Doctors dude start bed-ip-idip-idipping).

So we've had Jarreau and this ... wonder what the next scatastic Mellowmas entry will be. Did Michael McDonald ever put out a scattin' holiday record?

Bozedy-bozedy-bop ziddy-bop,

Rob
EightE1

Re: The Seventh Day of Mellowmas: Scatmas!

You guys obviously have a better set of friends than I do. If I even intimated that this version of "A Christmas Song" existed, I'd find my chestnuts roasting on an open fire somewhere.

If serious scat singers like Nat King Cole and Mel Torme (who wrote the song) didn't fuckscat with it, why would anyone else even think about it?

Oh wait, Mel did... and with Judy Garland no less!
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: The Seventh Day of Mellowmas: Scatmas!

I actually own a Spyro Gyra album. And two Bobby McFerrin albums, including the brilliant one he did *before* "Don't Worry, Be Happy" sullied his image.

Decent stuff, really. But whoever's doing vocals here should try this stuff in front of Simon Cowell.
