Popdose: The Twenty-Second Day of Mellowmas: Double Duvall! | Popdose

That was truly a Kafka-esque experience. I mean that as a compliment.

(No, actually, I don't -- I'm just checking in with another Duvall line from another movie.)

Who's that on the cover? That sure as hell doesn't look like her.

Mash-up possibilities: "Vergissmeinnicht" with "A Very Merry Christmas."

I have "ESC" and "DELETE" and a little speaker icon with no sound lines coming out of it for MUTE, but ... my kingdom for a "FLUSH" button.

I feel like I just received a package from you both, and the note on the inside says, "Suck it!" Man, that was the worst one yet. Even worse than the singing saw and NKOTB.

Shelley Duvall rocking herself to sleep on the hotel porch in full Olive Oyl costume... now THAT'S a nightmare!

#1 You are both horrible, horrible bastards.

#2 I refuse to believe you have three albums worse than this one.

#3 You should sic your minions on creating a mash up between Very Merry Christmas and "What's Up Doc" by Fu Schnickens or some other 16th note based rap song.

#4 I think "Gotta Be A Christmas" is based on a really bad midi drum track of Hey Nineteen by Steely Dan. (btw, this wrests the "most hilarious drum machine of Mellowmas" away from the Archies, dropping Fats Domino to bronze medal position.)

I had to go back and re-listen to "Gotta Be a Christmas," just to hear what you were talking about. I think you have a point about the drum track...and I hate you for making me curious enough to play anything from this album again.

That definitely filled my recommended daily allowance of vitamin P.U.
    Thanks a lot.
    Bastards.

I blame Harry Nilsson and Robert Altman for deceiving this poor, delusional woman into thinking she had a second career in this.

Kinda off-topic, but for Mellowmas' sake I think you guys have to check this out:

Dr. Phleebyte: Now Shelly, just relax and tell me all about your happy place.

Shelly: Well, Doctor, I see myself afloat in the cosmos surrounded by happy cartoon animals dressed in merry holiday accessories. There's a cheerful owl on my shoulder and...OH MY GOD THERE'S AN AX COMING THROUGH THE DOOR!!!

Dr. Pleebyte: [Note to self. Double Ms. Duvall's meds.]

I love that she lists her genre as "folk/blues."

I love this, and I love your banter about it. I must say, over the years, this has become a must for me at Christmas, and my only copy in on cassette. As bad as this recording is, it has grown on me. I do have a fondness for bad music. Anyway, it's great to find your blog. I hope you can and will post more tracks to mp3 as the season approaches. After reading your blog, I thought I'd create a fan page of facebook for this overlooked Shelley "gem". :-)
