On "Behind the Music," Jonathan Cain recalled a story about meeting a dying kid who loved the band -- then he lost it on camera and started sobbing. I wonder if that's the same kid you're talking about.

"Ode to a Koala Bear" isn't all that great, but it's not as bad as "Temporary Secretary." That song is a such an annoying earworm.

There is a heartbreaking story behind "Only the Young" that I'd like to share.
Back in '84 or '85, a boy from Cleveland dying from cystic fibrosis was offered a wish by the Make A Wish Foundation. The young boy asked to meet the band Journey (then still a huge rock act). Steve Perry, Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain from the band flew to Cleveland to meet the youngster and play him their upcoming new single, "Only the Young." The boy passed away soon thereafter. When I was growing up in Cleveland I was a huge Journey fan and I recall vividly when this special visit took place (it was on the front page of the papers). I never knew what disease the boy had, but I always thought it was cool for Journey to fulfill a child's dying wish. Today, as the parent with a child with CF, I can not listen to "Only the Young" without thinking of that story and especially of that horrible fucking disease. I also thank God that medical science has advanced far beyond what was available in the 1980's.

I love that you guys played DJ to the local tweens, and would go plunk down money for crap music so they could hear their favorites. Talk about listener appreciation!

That koala song is BAD. And I do NOT heart Debbie Gibson. I kinda like that System song, "Don't Disturb This Groove".

Having never played a synth, I'm not sure which sounds you're talking about. Does it star early? You know, like the opening riff?

I'm impressed by how many of the sounds in "Electric Youth" I recognize as presets. They had all those synthesizers, but did they ever touch the buttons? It seems not.
