Great and informative post! Marti Jones was always one of my favorite artists when I was in the music business, and this post really does justice to such a great song interpreter. My favorite song by her is "Wind In The Trees", so thanks for the version you posted last week. Kudos!

I once worked with a woman named Marti Jones and one day I asked her if she had ever heard of the musician named Marti Jones. She said "no", so I gave her copies of "Used Guitars" and "Match Game". She enjoyed them very much.

In that same office was a woman named Patti Smith, but that's a whole 'nother story.

Great post. I think you guys also posted that awesome Dixon-Jones bootleg, which rocked. Ahh, the memories....

On another topic Jon, there's been a very suspicious absence of "Pop Politico". And Ted's political column was also, suspiciously, canceled or stopped.

    Hmmm. Somehow I'm not surprised.

I understand that you guys worship our new messiah....errr.... president, but c'mon. Total surrender? Look at what's going on w/the economy, and Popdose is now going to stop all political writing? I realize that you all are far far left and think the exact same on political issues, but to not even allow a forum to criticize your messiah...errr....president when y'all ran twice weekly columns to criticize the former satan....errrr....former president is just lame and sad.

Even if I only agree w/you half the time, you write very well. C'mon, step up.

Ted stopped his political column because he started a new job -- and because he believed, despite my strenuous protests, that nobody cared about the series. I think Jon's political stuff has been on hiatus mostly because he's been in Dixonville for the last few weeks (and Hanleytown before that). Don't worry, we'll still cover current events. Haven't you met our newest political columnist, Anne Logue?
  • steve · 8 months ago
Fair enough, thanks for the info. Any new job is a good job in this environment. And I look forward to Anne's writing.

Anne's column debuted last Tuesday. Check her out: http://popdose.com/john-maynard-keynes-back-in-...

Yo, holmes, backhanded compliments will get you nowhere. I "write very well" for a messiah worshipper, huh?

I'll grant you one thing, Steve--it is pretty tough to be a left-wing political writer right now. It's like squishin' bugs. Unless you're a complete sadist, it starts to feel icky after awhile. Such enormous power, such helpless opponents.

And by the way, thanks for tarting up a comments section that should be all about Marti with tired political griping. I'll get back to tearing Rush Limbaugh a new one when I feel like it, OK? (Actually, that would be tearing Rush Limbaugh a new...Rush Limbaugh.) Anyway, for now just enjoy the bounty of Marti that I have so socialistically granted you for free, and calm down.

    There ya go!!

And this totally relates to Marti - "Any kind of lie" is probably my favorite Marti song, and the title at least is quite appropriate with what's going on politically right now, as well as the past 8 years.

    Jon,

I enjoy your writing style and have become a Popdose/JCummings fan. Thanks for introducing me to Marti.
  • JonCummings · 8 months ago
Thanks, man. Come back for more Marti next week.

I don't know if anyone has pointed it out yet, but the volume level on these downloads is so low, you can barely hear them. And pumping them up does no good, it sounds terrible. Can they be fixed? I was looking forward to hearing these, very much! Thanks
  • JonCummings · 8 months ago
Yeah, I know, the levels on the stuff from the first three albums is low--I ripped them from vinyl, and for some reason couldn't get the recording levels any higher than this. I've been trying to figure out the problem, and if I can it work I'll repost the tracks and let you know.
  • Old_Davy · 8 months ago
Cool, thanks. The tracks I can hear are excellent!

Hi Jon. If you're running on Windows, try this. (I had the same issue when I first started ripping my vinyl).

    1. Double click on the little speaker in the sys tray. This will open the Volume Control panel.
    2. Click on the Options menu and then Properties.
    3. Make sure the radio button for Recording is checked and then check the Line In box.
    4. Try ripping again.

    Good luck.

I can hook you up with the "Match Game" tracks. Go here:

Great stuff on Marti, Thanks. About the low recording level on the early tracks - don't know you're setup, have you tried burning vinyl to cd, then to popdose.
  • JonCummings · 8 months ago
Success! Turns out my turntable wasn't pre-amped properly -- I reconfigured it since the last time I burned CDs, and obviously didn't do it right. The tracks from Color Me Gone, Unsophisticated Time and Match Game are all re-posted and perfectly audible now.

    Thanks for the tips, guys.
