This third mini-season is a whole lot better than the other two, which were at best uneven. The focus and compression helps. LOCAL HERO star Capaldi is equally brilliant in the new film IN THE LOOP.

The Mrs. and I DVR'd this without knowing it was related to "Doctor Who"--and I have to confess that if I'd realized that, I might not have wanted to watch, because "Doctor Who" has left me cold in the past. We ended up watching all five episodes straight through on a Sunday afternoon and were completely riveted by it. I'd agree that Frobisher's final scene would not have appeared in an American TV production--but I doubt whether the entire thing could have been made as it was for American TV. It was remarkably dark with a real sense of menace, and did not continually hint that good would triumph in the end. Insanely great television, in other words. The other "Torchwood" series were in our Netflix cue before the last episode of "Children of Earth" was over.

Plus, I'd watch a DVD of Eve Myles sitting in a chair reading from the Cardiff phone book.

Can I ask how long Torchwood runs with commericals? Just curious, because her in the UK it's 60 mins already.

Each ep ran about 75 minutes on BBC America. Plus there were behind-the-scenes featurettes to fill things out to 90 minutes.

That's interesting because Doctor Who, of which of course Torchwood is a spin off/anagram, runs 45 mins expressly so they can sell it abroad to countries which put ads in it to take it up to an hour.
