Popdose: TV Review: “Community”

I'll have to wait to see this tonight, but I've been hearing so much advanced praise for this show, that I hope it captures some of the culture of community colleges -- something you and I know a great deal about.

Good grief, you mean we have a keeper?

    For at least one episode...yes.

I didn't think he was doing an Aziz Ansari impression; I thought he was doing an impression of the dude who plays Alec Baldwin's assistant on 30 Rock.

It wasn't the funniest show I've ever seen, but amusing enough to add to the season pass list. There were a few laugh-out-loud moments -- the line between Chase and McHale you mentioned above, when Chase looks at his hands to figure out which is right and which is left, and most of the dialogue that was muttered in the background, causing me to rewind my TiVo to hear what I missed. Pretty smart stuff.

The Asperger's jokes were the best.

Also, you're completely right about Ansari -- I watched the "Parks and Recreation" premiere last night, and realized that the similarities weren't as strong as I'd remembered when I wrote the article. I've updated it in your honor.

It's my favorite new series of the season (though ABC's "Modern Family" comes pretty close behind), and I did pretty well on my quest to talk to all of the cast members when I went out to the TCA tour last month:

Still didn't get Chevy, though. Dammit!

Wow, I can't believe you like it that much. I'll have to give it another shot. I thought it was a little awkward. I want to love it though. If anybody missed it, you can catch it on Fancast.

I thought it took a little time to get moving, and it wasn't a laugh a minute, but it did have a lot of great lines. Put it this way: it's the first series debut of '09 that's left me eager to see more.

Yeah I hear ya. I owe it to Chevy Chase to give it another shot :)
